The fascinator, i.e. a decorative hat, is made of sinamay, an abaca straw. It is smaller than an average hat size. As a result, it sits best pulled slightly diagonally in front of the forehead. The special finery is made of handmade flowers. I constructed the traditional roses from delicate chiffon (formerly a Dublin blouse of mine) and slightly firmer fabric in a glencheck pattern.
